The Power of Positive Affirmations

As the new year is approaching, I believe it’s very important to work on our self-talk to create a better mindset for 2021. I think we all deserve a better year than the one we just had.

How do we achieve that? Firstly, working on our communication skills does not strictly include our communication with others. As Elle stated in a previous blog post, our communication with ourselves is probably even more important. It isn’t healthy to constantly be talking to ourselves in a negative manner.

Positive affirmations are positive statements that you can say to yourself to help you overcome any negative feeling or emotion that you are experiencing. From a very young age, my mom constantly taught me different affirmations to tell myself depending on what I was feeling at that moment in time. She would tell me to continuously say the affirmation over and over again, out loud or in my head, until the negative feeling dissipated.

Our thoughts and beliefs truly influence how we physically feel. Don’t let yourself get to the point where your whole body is in aches and pains due to the negative phrases you’re telling yourself in your head. Try to be mindful by stopping that negative self-talk and turning it into a positive one.

Author Louise Hay has a website where she is constantly praising daily affirmations. She is an incredible author with lots of amazing affirmations posted daily on her website, which I would encourage you to view and say each day. It is such a simple way to reverse a negative mindset. She also has a book, called Heal Your Body, where you can look up your specific health challenge and you will find the probable metaphysical cause for this health issue and the information you need to overcome it by creating a new thought pattern. I swear by this book, and always look to it whenever I am feeling any ailments. You would be surprised how spot on it is!

Here are some of my personal favourite affirmations:

I am surrounded by love. All is well.

I feel safe in the rhythm and flow of ever-changing life.

I lovingly release the past. They are free and I am free. All is well in my heart now.

When you first start saying these affirmations, your mind might not believe them. However, once you continuously say them and you repeat them day after day, they will become a part of your subconscious mind and so your mind will start believing what you are saying.

We need to be mindful of our thoughts—both positive and negative. What we tell ourselves is what our bodies believe. The reality that we live in each day gets based on those thoughts. It is so important to stay mindful of those thoughts and recognize when you are thinking negatively. You have to cut yourself off mid-negative-talk and say a positive affirmation instead.

When these affirmations get repeated over and over again, they will begin to take charge of your current negative thoughts. By doing this, your pattern of thinking will start to change. It will then ultimately change your life to a much more positive one. Your words have such a strong impact on your thoughts. When those words and thoughts are in harmony is when your reality will change as well.

I strongly encourage you to get in the habit of talking to yourself in a more positive manner. You will be surprised at how your daily life will be altered for the better. If you find it difficult at first, you can also set reminders on your phone, so it can alert you every so often giving you a positive affirmation to read. We’re all always on our phones anyway, we might as well make it a positive space.

It’s truly time to bring some positivity into our lives. Let’s make it our goal this new year!
