Meet our New Blog Manager, Elsa

Hi everyone!

I’m writing to introduce myself as your new Vent Over Tea Blog Manager.

I joined Vent Over Tea in November this past year, and I have been involved in writing and editing the blog since the beginning of 2019. I wanted to be a part of this organization for a few simple reasons. I had heard great things about the people involved from my big brother, who is also on the Executive Committee. I was very interested to learn more about what active listening actually entails, and the impacts that it can have on people’s lives. Finally, Vent Over Tea has done an amazing job creating a safe space for people to talk about mental health, and I wanted to be involved in any way that I possibly could.

I’m going to be honest — I was a little nervous to write my first blog for Vent Over Tea. I majored in history at university, so I have written a lot of essays in my time, but they were never, ever remotely personal. Sitting down and writing about something close to my heart was way harder than any boring essay I’ve had to write.

As an actress, you’d think of all people I’d be used to baring my soul by now (it’s not like I’m an accountant or something). But the thing is, when you’re acting you’re able to hide behind your character. You’re able to be vulnerable without actually being vulnerable. You’re able to always say it wasn’t you. But writing about mental health has been a completely new challenge for me.

I would like to thank Elle, the wonderful creator of this blog, for trusting me with this special role. Long before I became involved with the team, I was a fan of the thoughtful content that Elle was posting. She does an incredible job, and is and always will be the best person to talk through an idea with.

If any blog authors and contributors are reading this: I have so much respect for all of you! I must say — you’re sending us some top-quality stuff, which makes my job easy! In all seriousness, I want to thank you for trusting us with your personal stories and experiences. You never know who your story might be reaching, and how your words might resonate with someone.

If you told me six months ago that I’d be a mental health blogger I would have been very surprised. Life can lead you down interesting paths, and I’m extremely proud to be a part of this inspiring community.

Warmly,

Elsa
